Celluloid laminated mahogany was used from 1902 to 1912, followed by celluloid faced Pearwood. In 1905, the name was changed to Faber-Castell. Pickworth for American distributor in Newark, New Jersey, USA.

Slide rules started out as boxwood, with celluloid facings added in 1897.

They are celebrating their 250th anniversary as of 2011. A.W Faber, later Faber-Castell, was a German manufacturer of slide rules, starting in 1892, that began as A.W.
